Selling part 2 - Upselling and cross selling

With Christmas fast approaching, I thought it might be useful to have a look at some “Upselling” via Monthly and seasonal offers. You may not need these ideas just now, if you are already at capacity for December. In which case – perhaps consider them for January when appointments are more available.

With Christmas fast approaching, I thought it might be useful to have a look at some “Upselling” via Monthly and seasonal offers. You may not need these ideas just now, if you are already at capacity for December. In which case – perhaps consider them for January when appointments are more available.

A “monthly special” offer is a good way to promote certain products or treatments. You could promote this in your salon, on your website or social media or via an email newsletter. We talk about email newsletters later on in this blog.

But first - Plan carefully

To get maximum benefit from adding to your treatment menu, start at the beginning and think carefully about what is most likely to work. Succinctly put by Professional Beauty “First you need to understand when there is downtime in the diary that needs filling and what your most popular treatments are. Then look at relevant treatments that link to those best sellers” This is really important at Christmas time – if you want a bumper Christmas, rather than being happy with the way things are.  Make sure that you will have the capacity in the salon first.

Seasonal offers can help promotions and advertising to stand out from competitors. When it comes to big holidays, like Christmas, you can use them as an excuse to upsell your products and treatments. For example, offer a Mother and Daughter treatment as a Christmas or Mother’s Day gift. Vouchers work well as Christmas presents.

And of, course, ALWAYS, book your client in for their next appointment when the treatment finishes.

Here’s some ideas to upsell and cross sell which will benefit your client and help your salon revenue
